Wikipedia defines the origins of May Day:
The earliest May Day celebrations appeared in pre-Christian times, with the festival of Flora, the Roman Goddess of flowers, and the Walpurgis Night celebrations of the Germanic countries. It is also associated with the Gaelic Beltane.

For those people wishing to DJ I will make a schedule. Each DJ will get an hour during the day. First come first serve. Please contact Green Collingwood in world ASAP. YOU are not Alone ~ Fearless Nation PTSD Support
The following was talken from several notecards, but I think it illustrates what Fearless Nation is all about, better than any words I could use. I first found Fearless Nation from a discussion with a dear friend and co owner of Fearless Nation Sue Mowadeng.
Their site and sim in world provide PTSD sufferers with a TON on information, quiet, peaceful places for you. Fearless Nation help PTSD sufferers with education resources, peer discussion groups, help with choosing a therapist and therapies, biofeedback resources, PTSD history and so much more.

PTSD stands for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
PTSD is a condition, NOT a disease, NOT a mental illness. It is a lasting reaction to a horrifying event. PTSD is a response by normal people to an abnormal event.
Early History of PTSD
Because people have been experiencing extremely stressful, potentially life-threatening events for centuries, clearly PTSD is a condition that has plagued humans for quite some time before the APA officially recognized it as an emotional disorder. In fact, throughout our history, PTSD has been called a number of other different names, including:
* ‘battle fatigue’ or ‘gross stress reaction’ for soldiers with PTSD after World War II
* ‘combat fatigue’ or ‘shell shock’ for soldiers who experienced PTSD symptoms after World War I
* soldier's heart for soldiers who developed the symptoms of PTSD after the Civil War.
Unfortunately, before the medical community recognized PTSD as a viable emotional disorder, most leaders and doctors thought it was simply nothing more than cowardice or personal weakness.
PTSD in Modern Times
Although PTSD was largely disregarded for decades, the Vietnam War brought significant public attention to this emotional disorder when doctors began to diagnose it as post-Vietnam syndrome. The Vietnam veterans who suffered from this disorder pushed the medical and the military community to recognize it as a legitimate disorder.
Today, about 7 percent to 8 percent of the general population will develop PTSD. These numbers go up significantly for crime victims, law enforcement, combat soldiers and prisoner of war survivors, among whom PTSD has anywhere from a 10 percent to 30 percent chance of developing.
PTSD and Popular Culture
The general public has learned a lot about PTSD thanks to the movie and film industry. In fact most people have learned about the syndrome by viewing PTSD in film. Films like "Fearless" or "Mercy", or films about the Vietnam War, such as “Apocalypse Now”, “The Deer Hunter” and “Born on the Fourth of July”, have all featured Vietnam veterans who end up having to deal with the issues that come with PTSD. These films have been well-received by audiences, which tells us that, as a culture, humans are very interested in how other people deal with traumatic events in their lives.
Not only has the film industry captured the realities of PTSD, books and novels also explore this subject. Phillip Cavuto wrote A Rumor of War, which is considered to be one of the classic works on the subject of PTSD. In the Lake of the Woods by Tim O'Brien is another excellent work about a Vietnam vet who struggles with PTSD.
* The majority of PTSD sufferers are NOT military or combat veterans, but ordinary people who have survived a horrifying event.
These people include:
- Emergency response workers, EMTs, Trauma Medical personnel (jobs with high levels of life-threatening stress)
- Police officers (job with high levels of life-threatening stress)
- Disaster response workers (job with high levels of life-threatening stress)
- War refugees and those living in war zones
- Crime victims (rape, assault, hate crimes, etc.)
- Sexual abuse survivors
- Child abuse survivors (including sexual, psychological or physical abuse)
- Torture and hostage victims
- Human trafficking victims (rape + hostage + long term abuse)
- Concentration camp inmates and prisoners of war
- Man-made and natural disaster survivors (vehicular accidents, war, hurricanes, etc.)
- Victims of intense bullying at school or work
- Accident (car crash, plane crash, vehicular disaster) victims
Why Can A Virtual Reality Environment (VRE) like Second Life be Helpful for People with PTSD?
A virtual environment can be helpful for people with PTSD for a number of reasons:
* Cost Effective: Most PTSDers are challenged with health costs and employment issues. SL offers a FREE VRE rich in offerings that educate and support the post-trauma condition at little or no cost. Fearless Nation provide educational tools in the VRE that you would pay a good deal of money for in the real, physical world. Social events, lectures, group activities are all provided, free of charge to you.
* Low-Stress Environment: No need to battle traffic to get to a group meeting or event,no stress over feeling "crowded"...You are in control.
* Reconnection with Others: PTSD is a very lonely condition. Those of us with PTSD are often fearful of groups of people, social situations, and physical interaction with people. Most of us long for a social life again, to converse with others, make friends, go out and have fun. The VRE provides this--if you get uncomfortable, you can log off.

My White Rose
My journey into Second life started over a year and bit ago, which I detailed in my post called 'The tears of angels, Jennifer's adventure so far,... '
This leg of my journey through Second Life (SL), found me at the beginning of March of this year, creating and doing blogs and tweets to promoting our Second Life Relay (RFL) For Life team for Harmony of Hope. I guess I shouldn't have been surprised, to find this larger community of people doing the same, in your part of the world, the world over. All sharing information, writing amazing stories and generally fighting back anyway you can.
The wealth of knowledge, hope and power you all bring touches me deeply, and I am lost for words to explain what I truly feel.
I hate Cancer. I hate how it took some of my dearest friends from me. I hate how it tried to take my father from me. I hate Cancer in all it's forms. But I can't live with hate. I need to shed this hate.
So use it power to empower me to take action, which is were I find myself today. A voice in a choir of voices, all singing for one common goal, to end the pain and suffering that cancer causes. I thought the 100's of RFL in SL teams, comprised of over 4,000 individuals, was a pretty big choir, but then I found all you. Thousands people in Tweetland, with your blogs, and your sites, all with your countless followers and supporters, all singing in this same unified voice, and I am truly humbled.
In these last 6+ weeks, I've read 100's of blog post, websites and tweets. I've cried buckets of tears at the stories you all share. I stand in awe of your resolve, in the face of the hardships you have endured. I feel your boundless love for life, and how it changed how you view of life, and feel your fears for what may. I feel your Hope.
I'm hugging you all with all my love and admiration,
Jennifer

About STRUM DIESEL
Strum began playing guitar and writing songs at 13. He began to realize that being a performing songwriter was his destiny. Entering his 20's in fall of 1997, he went solo. By the summer of 1998 he was included on a compilation CD. Personal experience is the primary source for subject matter in his work. When he's not lamenting his heartbreak, or the heartbreak he has created, his voice is dedicated to explicating socio-political issues that are constantly perverted or altogether ignored by mainstream media. Second Life allows ’Strum’ to share his craft through full live sets, where listeners can hear what he is really all about and found a renewed sense of purpose as a performer and writer. This renewed sense not only involves having the time of his life performing as much as possible, in as many places as possible, but also truly being a part of what will help mankind enter into an elevated state of awareness of what it means to be human. Now that's purpose!

Stella brings the Aloha spirit of her Hawaiian home to every show, from the wild and crazy shows at her home base, The Deck at the Dakari Coast, to her mellow shows filled with songs of love and heartbreak.
Singing everything from Sara Bareilles to Sheryl Crow, Lady Antebellum to Taylor Swift, jazz standards or your favorite songs from the 80s and 90s, Stella puts her heart into every song, and she loves chatting with the audience, making everyone feel welcome, between tunes.
She's also fortunate enough to sing live regularly with fellow SL musicians Maximillion Kleene, Raspbury Rearwin and Donny Doobie.

Alphabet Soup Challenge
This year's Event Co-Chair Dwen Dooley came up with the idea of setting the teams with a special challenge.
The challenge was to get a 100 L$ donation (or more) from avatars whose names start with each of the 26 letters of the alphabet, within a week, with the gold trophy going to the first team to do so. Hence 'Alphabet Soup'.
I was ask by Poppy Zabelin to cover the trophy presentation for the PR/Marketing group of the Relay For Life in Second Life Team and write a post for the Relay For Life of Second Life blog.
Enjoy, Jennifer

Musing of my 1st month doing RFLinSL
I have to say, doing Relay For Life in Second Life has been an incredible experience. And when I think back to everything I've done and everyone I've met, I'm floored it's only been a month since joining Harmony of Hope.
Many people describe Second Life as path or journey, well as you may have read in earlier post here, it was Pink Charlesworth that opened my eyes, helped me hear and gave me fight, for what I know is my calling on my journey into Second Life.
From my first meeting with the team I offered myself to them and became their Social Media person. My goal was to promote the team and RFLinSL by by creating Twitter, Facebook pages and blogging our efforts. Having never done this before, I followed and devoured all the group notices, attended meeting of other teams, and attempted to make contacts with other Social Media people doing the same to learn from them.
Didn't take me long to find Poppy Zabelin who is the PR/Marketing Area Chair 2011 at Relay For Life in Second Life and strike up a friendship. Can't remember exactly when but early on she invited me to join the PR/Marketing group of the main Relay For Life in Second Life team in helping them with their efforts. I remember feeling and I still am feeling incredibly honored to be given this opportunity to be part of something that is larger then any one of us. But it didn't stop there. Just last week Skylar Smythe was chosen as the Co-Chair of the PR/Marketing group and I quickly said a congratulatory hello. Well it turns out she lives an hour down the road in the real world. Small world!!
Right from the launch weekend, and the opening celebrations of this year Season of Hope, and our teams first party I gave it my all. I dopped off RFL event boards and RFL Kiosk everywhere i could, I Challenge the gathering for our Mardi Gras party on openeing day. My challenge is I would go without hair and my neko tail for a week and managed to get close to $8,000L for it. As it turned out it was mostly due to contributions from my dearest SL brother and friend Agent Engel. What an awesome person he is.
Right from the start I knew I would try to hold my own RFL events, and by chance, I saw a wonderful documentary about Canadian Rock and Roll history in the 60's and thought that make a wonderful party. Since I've been hosting Saturday morning dance party at a small club called The Star Cove since early last year, I had made lots of friend whom DJ in SL and I brought my idea to them, which they loved. I also wanted to take my events on the road by having them held at some of the wonderful clubs I found on my journey, one of which was Harlow's. So two Sundays ago, Sue Mowadeng a fabulous DJ and friend and I, held a formal dance there, and we managed to raise a modest $5,000 linden. I remember how nervous I was leading up to it, even after doing a year's worth of parties at my club. Megan would like us back for another and I felt great.
Last week was a wash of real life with moving and stuff, but once settled I'm back at it. While chilling at my home sim at A Woman's Touch, Sue bugs me again, about this Canadian Rock and Roll idea, I ask Ashra Lang the owner of AWT is she would like to host an RFL event we quickly hatch a plan for this coming weekend. While hatching this plan Pink passes me a note, that another club would like to host our team. Azure is a jazz and music club with live bands. Oh Kewl. Gonna need help on this one from the team.
Jumping back again to the begin, I knew to promote out team with Social media I had had to cover many RFL events and not just our team. We are all one big team after all. I covered all the big RFL events, including the awesomely successful Fashion of Hope and equally awesome Fantasy Faire events in the same light as the opening celebrations. In all three of these, I was stunned at the sim designs. BOSL Stadium was incredible. The monochrome sim of the Fashion for Life sim was fantastic, and the Fantasy Faire sim magical. And Thanks to Nevar LoboI received an advanced peek to the Fantasy sims.
And yesterday, Poppy expressed her wishes for me to take on more PR/Marketing roles via blogging for their sites, wanted me to cover the Alphabet Soup Challenge's trophy ceremonies. Another chance to spread my wings again. I know I've missed a million details in telling this story, needless to say, I am having the time of my life, all in the name of Relay For Life, and that has given me an incredible boost in my real life, the life of the typist, of the avatar known, as Jennifer Curtau.
