Advanced peek at the Fantasy Faire SIMs

Ever have on of those day you wished to had a SCREAMing fast computer with a kick-ass video rendering capability?

Well Today was one of those days! Especially when Nevar called on me to come have an advanced perv around the Fantasy Faire SIMs.

The central hub is absolutely gorgeous but it didn't get me ready for what the other 8 SIMs would look like!

I first stopped at the Nemo as I'm a fan for SteamPunk, and OMG, I was floored by the sim design. I even max'd out my graphics setting and waited for the whole area to rez in. The Textures are rich and luscious though out.

My next stop was at Sea of Mer SIM, and again I was treated to a stunning SIM, Humm? 2-1/2 hours and I barely covered 2 SIMs? That not even looking at shops yet. Clearly it's going to take a bit of time to get through all 9 SIMs of this years Fantasy Faire before it all over on April 10th.

SO I would highly recommend hitting this years Fantasy Faire for Relay For Life in Second Life Daily as for when it over, it's GONE.

Fantasy Faire runs from April 2nd to April 10th.

Hoof It at Fantasy Faire

Hi, I'm Erin Talamasca, owner and creator of Hoof It animated horses and ponies. I am honored this year to be a sponsor of Fantasy Faire in Second Life.

You'll find the Hoof It store in the awesome steampunk sim Nemo Revisited, where you'll be able to pick up loads of avatar accessories designed specifically for the event, never to be sold again, and all for charity. You can see some snaps of the special products we'll have for sale in the Hoof It Flickr group!

I joined Second Life in September 2005, on the advice of my partner who was trying to convince me it was fun. "You can do ANYTHING!" he promised - and so I commandeered his computer and spent the next week trying to build a cow to prove it.

I still have that cow. It's about 20ft tall, and I wore it proudly on my head for days. But SL had me hooked.

I've been riding horses since I was four, and messing with computers for just about as long, so it was natural to me that since I'd moved into this fantastic virtual world, I would want to fill it with horses! For every success there must have been a hundred laughable failures, but finally in November 2006 I decided that I could either keep 'improving' my horses forever, or get on with it and see if anyone else wanted any - and Hoof It! was born.

If you like horses, you'll love Hoof It! Everything equestrian - whether you're looking for a riding horse or looking to BE a horse, we have your hooves here, from perfect realism to flights of fantasy along with more equine accessories than you can shake a stick at!

The winner of this aution will get a unique, one of a kind Hoof It! Horse Avatar - a matching set of Pegasus Wings - and a one-off version of our new Arabian Saddle sets. These designs will not be sold again - nobody else in SL will ever own them.

Here are the features of the items you will win:

Damian at *The Club*

Harmony of Hope is proud to host Damian at *The Club*  April 4th from 5-6pm SL.

Damian is a songwriter, guitarist and vocalist streaming his music into SL from the center of the USA,  Missouri.   Damian has been hailed as "one of the best cover artists in Second Life", by Metaverse Music.   The review goes on to say...  "He doesn't imitate the song just like it's original, he makes it his own." "His original songs are just as good as the covers. If he didn't announce it as an original I would've thought it was a cover song too.."

A typical Damian performance might include Jason Mraz, Green Day, Jack Johnson , Bon Jovi, John Mayer, Rob Thomas, Sick Puppies, LifeHouse, Three Doors Down, Muse and so many others. His wide variety in music style is sure to please everyone.

A Call To Care, April 5th, 2011

A recent post on the University of Michigan - Comprehensive Cancer Center outlined details about the upcoming funding cuts to the National Cancer Institute in the amount of 640 million dollars.

American people need to contact your Congressmen and Senators by mail, by phone and give them your recommendation that any cut for Cancer research funding not take place in any form.

See http://www.adrenalcancerhope.org/default.asp?pg=events/campaigns for more information.

Post, repost, tweet, retweet, email and contact everyone you think, that can reach the widest audience as fast as possible to take action.

Everything we do for RFL and RFLinSL will never replace what this loss will do to Cancer Research for years to come.

April 5th is only days away and time is of the essence.

80,000 Linden raised with JAIL & BAIL

Harmony of Hope held a Jail and Bail event on March 25.

Caramel Luminos, the host for the event,  had scheduled the volunteers and worked to put the event together.  However due to an illness was unable to make it online for the event.  Her partner Vendet Luminos took charge.

People who had volunteered started showing up, but we really had no idea what we were doing.  We even had Morgan Kincess the chair for the international committee chair to be jailed.  As we started calling on friends and team members as well as the volunteer groups the process started to kick into gear.

We had raised 30K in the first couple hours. Seeing the success and having more and more volunteers to be jailed, we moved the event to *The Club*.
We were able to include club members into the event, which snowballed into donations over 80 thousand Lindens!

I would like to thank everyone, volunteer and "bailer" for your time, commitment and support. Without you this would not have been possible.

Cancer is indiscriminate and knows no boundaries.

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is a life-changing event that gives everyone in communities across the globe a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease.

No matter why you take part in Relay, however, one thing is clear: with every step you take, you are helping the American Cancer Society save lives. With your help, we aren’t just fighting one type of cancer – we’re fighting for every birthday threatened by every cancer in every community. Each person who shares the Relay experience can take pride in knowing that they are working to create a world where this disease will no longer threaten the lives of our loved ones or claim another year of anyone’s life.

Relay For Life is conducted not simply to raise funds, but to involve new communities, give the Society a local presence, and provide communities the opportunity to own the mission.

100,000 Linden raised, and so many ppl to Thanks

Hi yas,

Relay for Life 2nd full weekend is almost over and the fun just beginning.I know I am having a blast, this being my 1st year.

I would like to share a milestone my team had last night.

It all started a little over a week ago when I stopped in for a meeting for Team Passionate Redheads. I was attending because I wanted to promote the online work I'm doing and make connections with other teams. At this same meeting Evangeline Ling from team RELAY for HOPE was there there to share her wealth of knowledge doing RFLinSL and so we stuck up a conversation. We talked about how important it is to share ideas and strategies, which is how I got Eva to write her Eva's Relay For Life, Top 10 for my blog.

I was SO thankful for her work, wonderful tips Eva.

Last night I logged in and got a call from my captain (Ramdon) requesting I come to support RELAY for HOPE in a challenge. Eva offered to donate 100 Linden for every person they could TP in by a set time. She also said she would only do so if they go over 20 people. Random call on all Harmony of Hope members to come by which 5 of us arrived and in the end Eva manage to get 33 people over. YAY Eva! Eva's strategy is that most of the people called, would also donate to RFL and some would donate large. Well Eva did donate her 3,300 linden for the challenge, but she said, the donation from these 33 people tripled what she donated.

So another nice tips Eva, BIG thanks.

After the party Harmony of Hope retired to our club for an evening party and shortly afterward Eva IM'd me wanting to thank us for our support. She then ask if I was by our kiosk which I said yes, she send me 1,000 linden for our teams. I was just about to drop it in when one of her tip sprang to mind, the "Double Down" one. Now at this point Harmony had a total of 89,500 linden, so I piped up and said, I'm about to drop 1k on the kiosk, anyone up for a double down challenge? Took a bit of cheer leading to get my double, and did get it. As I dropped Eva's donation in and before I could write out a BIG 'rawking thanks', the total jumped to 100,000 and I was speechless.

So not only did my all my networking for RFL pay off in some awesome tips, traffic for the blog, to promote our team and RFLinSL, and connections with other teams, our "One Team" philosophy has helped one team reach a successful goal in their event, and their mentoring and suggestions turned what could have been just another 1k donation into over10k in donation!!!! YaY!!! WOOOHOOOO!! (insert howl)

I am so proud to be doing what I'm doing, It truly is infectious and I am hooked.

Today Harmony of Hope is hosting a JAIL & BAIL event, please find event details at http://rflharmonyofhope.blogspot.com/2011/03/its-time-once-again-for-caras-annual.html and please do contact Cara as we certainly could use volunteers.

BIG hugz and even BIGGER thanks for everyone that go us here.

Love Jennifer

What is Relay For Life?-

Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society’s signature activity. It offers everyone in a community an opportunity to participate in the fight against cancer. Teams of people camp out at a local high school, park, or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event. Relays are an overnight event, up to 24 hours in length.

Relay For Life is a life-changing event that brings together more than 3.5 million people to:

-Celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer. The strength of survivors inspires others to continue to fight.
-Remember loved ones lost to the disease. At Relay, people who have walked alongside people battling cancer can grieve and find healing.
-Fight Back. We Relay because we have been touched by cancer and desperately want to put an end to the disease.

Why Random Padar Relays

WHY I RELAY

I am a fortunate one.  I do not have cancer in my family history. My parents nor siblings have died from cancer.   I do however have a close friend that passed from breast cancer but she lived many miles away from me and I didn't have to see her fight for her life.  My second year in SL I fell in love with a man who was a caregiver for his mother.  I was introduced to RFL and decided this is the one thing I can DO to support him and his mother.  My very first year of Relay left a huge impression on me.  The testimonies of those fighting this terrible disease, the passion to find a cure, the emotional stories of survival and loss has made me even more determined to fight this battle along side my partner and friends.  This is my 4th year Relaying in SL.  My 3rd year as captain of Harmony of Hope.  I will continue to work and  do the best I can to help bring an end to this cancer.

2011 Relay For Life of Second Life Sponsorship

Second Life is an online community produced by Linden Labs and populated with people from all over the world. The community supports the vibrant interaction of individuals from all over the world, each interacting, creating products and delivering services on virtual land.

It is an important concept to understand that Second Life, while highly-graphical in presentation, is not a game it is an interconnected community of over 15 million residents, 1.2 million of them login regularly, many spending more than 100 hours a month online each and over 65,000 of them are online right now.

Many kinds of businesses are creating a presence in Second Life to connect with these residents, often as part of a broader online presence in social media, or because the demographics match what they need. As in any social media endeavor, connecting to the community in a meaningful way is important to your success.

The American Cancer Society represents one of the most successful communities in Second Life. With many successful events behind us, we are now looking to team with corporations who either are in Second Life or want to enter Second Life with the ability to connect with the community in a positive, meaningful way.

To support our sponsors in connecting to this powerful, vibrant community / market, the American Cancer Society in Second Life is offering various levels of corporate sponsorship for the 2011 Relay For Life of Second Life.

Sim Sponsor $250 US Donation
Your logo on RFL of SL event website,
Your name in "about land"
Your sign on your sim's Relay Info Station
Your name listed on appropriate RFL of SL Sim Crossing Sign(s)
Your business mentioned on Relay Radio Station during Relay

As you know we usually have several sponsorship levels, with varying rewards that come with each level. For this year's list please see: http://tinyurl.com/4kehe3o

While we hope that you will encourage many people to becomes sponsors, this opportunity is ONLY for the $250 USD Sim Sponsorship Level. It works this way.

1. You find an individual, group or business who wants to sponsor a Relay sim and give us their name. Please also ask them to contact us and mention your team name.

2. Once we have confirmation that the person you sent to us has paid, that person will get the stated rewards for the SIM Sponsorship level and YOUR TEAM will get $250 USD added to your team total once we're past kick-off.

We are telling you this now so you can both get our Relay sims sponsored AND add to your team total.

Mata Loire is in charge of Sponsorship Team Outreach and will be able to answer your questions as will I.

GO RELAY!

Sim Sponsorship FAQ

Q: What do I get for my $250 US?

A:  See the list under "SIM" on the ACS website  here--> http://tinyurl.com/4kehe3o

Q: Can I rename the sim I sponsor?

A: The sim names will be the same as last year, eg. RFL Hope, RFL Screening, RFL Persevere etc...  Your name will appear AFTER the sim name in "about land."

Q: How many characters can my name be in "about land"?

A: It will vary according to sim name, but someplace between 25 and 45 characters, including spaces. Shorter is better as it is easier to read.

Q: If my sponsorship is credited to a team can that team be on the sim that I am sponsoring?

A: We will do our best.  BUT there are an amazing number of things to take into consideration in assigning campsites to sims, so we can't promise.

Q:  Can my sponsorship be "In Memory of..."?

A:  Yes, we will have a certain percentage of the relay sims available for this. You might consider "Remembering ...." as a shorter option.

Q: If I was brought to you by a team when will the team get my sponsorship credited to their team total?

A: When we have confirmation from ACS that you have paid :)

Q: How do I pay?

A. There are 3 ways to pay - but please ensure that the payment is made by ONE individual per sim sponsorship

   1.  You can pay in lindens to the avatar,  ‘relayforlife AmericanCancer.’ The cost is 67,500.
   2. You can pay directly to ACS by check .  You will receive a "snail-mail" form to send directly to ACS if you choose this option.

   3. Or you can pay by credit card on the ACS website. If you choose this option please use the link on this page:   http://main.acsevents.org/site/TR?fr_id=34810&pg=entry
so it gets credited to Second Life Relay. Choose the 'General Donation' link found under team & individual.

We do prefer the direct ACS option as it ensures that ALL of your donation goes towards funding the cure without LL transaction fees.

Q: What information do you need and how do you ensure my privacy?

A:  In all cases we will need an email from you telling us when you have paid and how much.  If you pay by check or credit card we will need your RL name, your city & state and amount of your contribution to enable ACS to pick out your donation from the other sponsors. Only Samara Barzane & ACS will have that information and will keep it secure and Samara will delete it at the end of Relay. Please email the information to Samara at shrimp6742@gmail.com

Q: What else will you need from me?
A. After your payment is confirmed we will ask for a logo for the website and inworld signage as well as a texture for the brochure ad. We will give you those specific requirements at that time.

If you have questions or need more information please just ask :)

Thank you so much for supporting RFL of SL and helping us fund a cure!

Why Tee Auster Relays

First of all, my Mother died of ovarian cancer. It came out of nowhere. In addition to the cancer she died in surgery of a heart attack and stroke. She was my best friend and it was the hardest lost I’ve ever taken.

I am in a leadership position in Education. What is one of the first things a person does when they or their family member has a life threatening diagnosis? They go and tell their boss. I can tell the the look.  I have closed my door and cried endless tears with colleagues I know very well or hardly know at all. I have lived and am living through the disease with those in my organization….and every time it goes back to the feelings I experienced with the loss of my mother.

You need to know, not everyone can do this work. Yes, it is a celebration of life, survivors and caregivers  but for many involved in the process for themselves or others, it is too new, too fresh. This is the compassionate aspect of the work that we do in SL and in RL. Be mindful of this.

Last Spring, I lost my adopted father to lung cancer on my RL Birthday. Once again it came out nowhere. It was so hard on my family…too new, too fresh. The one year anniversary will be on Easter this year and it will be bittersweet.

For me Relay For Life is a practice of compassion in action. I am very proud to be on the Harmony of Hope Team, the greatest team in SL!!!! This year I am also a Co Captain in RL. Go Relay!!!! Go Harmony of Hope!!! We can make a difference!!!

My day of sorrow and celebrations

I woke this morning like most others, but some how this day was different.

Today was March 18th 2011. A day I knew I had to stand and walk with a dear real life friend, as we held her mom's funeral.

Anna was laid to rest today in a beautiful celebration of her life today. She was a simple woman, quite ordinary by most peoples definition, but don't you dare say that to her 3 children, grandson and extended family. She was special. She believed in family, and like all mothers sacrificed a good deal, to make sure her family did right by her, and believe me, they have.

Her oldest son gave a commemoration that was filled with love and laughter from being raised by this person. I was amazed he manage to get through it all without breaking down. (He nearly did) And if that wasn't enough his son, Anna's grandson, followed his dad in sharing his close relationship with his gramma.

He said something that still resonating in me. You know the old saying: "You can pick you friends,..."?

Well he realized this week, that, that's not entirely true. By this statement he said, "At some point in some teen life, people choose their friends and slowly drift away from family. They start hanging around with friend more than family, and as live moves on and life gets busier, leaving less time for family". "But not me" he said emphatically! "I choose my family!" He doesn't remember how, when and were he made this choice, he just realized this week he rather hang with with dad, spend time with gramma, go party with his auntie, and more.

He also shared a story from when he was very young. Being from a typical working family, when the kids were sick, there was gramma to look after them, while the parent when off to work. Gramma would wait on him hand and foot, make him anything he wanted to eat. And she was a great cook. Gramma being an avid dancer, would dance with him in the living room. Standing on her feet and holding on for dear life, around and around we went. "Those were wonderful days I will cherish until the end of my days" he said sobbingly.

Anna's last few years, were not good ones. Diagnosed with colon cancer 3 years ago, all the while succumbing to Alzheimers, her family rallied around her and fought these with her though it all. In the end, it was to much for this 76 year old darling of a woman to fight.

She will me missed, but not forgotten, by all that knew her.

Rest in Peace Grandma Anna.

My Reason to Relay

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is more than just an event to me. It is my personal opportunity to help save lives from cancer by supporting the American Cancer Society.

It's amazing to think that millions of people will be diagnosed with cancer this year. Somebody close to us may be one of them.

But, by taking part in Relay, I am helping the American Cancer Society save lives by:

    * Helping people stay well by helping them take steps to prevent cancer or detect it early, when it?s most treatable
    * Helping people get well by being in their corner around the clock to guide them through every step of their cancer experience
    * Finding cures by funding groundbreaking research that helps us understand cancer?s causes, determine how best to prevent it and discover new ways to cure it
    * Fighting back by working with lawmakers to pass laws to defeat cancer and rally communities worldwide to join the fight

Please support my efforts by making a donation or by joining my Relay For Life team. Together, we have the power to help create a world where cancer can no longer claim another year of anyone?s life.

Eva's Relay For Life, Top 10

Hello, I'm Evangeline Ling... I am one of the Co-Captains for team RELAY for HOPE. This is the team's third year in SL's Relay For Life, and this is also my third year in it as well.

In that time, I've had lots of opportunities to learn and experiment with things that work in Relay.  I've also had  a lot of opportunity to experiment with things that do not work well in Relay either... such as my event idea of the "Big Easter Egg Drop."  At that failed attempt at an event in my first year of relaying, I learned that dropping 500 physical objects shaped like eggs inside a skybox club for the participants to sift through and find prizes in them was NOT as wise of an idea as I thought it would be...  Eva's big Easter Egg Disaster basically ended up looking more like a professional griefer attack across 6 sims as the 500 RELAY for HOPE easter eggs collided and went flying.  Even 2 years later I was still finding the occasional Easter Egg from that little Relay disaster...  OK so avoid THAT event idea all together.

What I would really like to focus on today, however, is on a helpful list of good ideas to use in Relay and in your efforts and in your team's efforts.  I call this "Eva's Relay For Life, Top 10"

10.  TRASH MY CLUB:  Ok this event might not bring in a lot of money like other events do... but the event is so much fun that it will bring back morale to any team that is in the Relay dumps.  You know that burned out feeling when suddenly you are not having fun or feel overworked? Time for something REALLY fun.  You need a club and that club needs to have a whole bunch of spare prims not being used, at least 500.  Basically get a DJ for the event and play a lot of trashy songs (my favorite is Oscar the grouch's "I Love Trash").  Then you set the perms in the club so that everyone can rez things.  As your sloppy guests arrive... tell them they can rez out anything they want... trash up the club with all their garbage.  As the prim count rises occasionally return some of the higher prim trash so people can keep rezzing.  Music... lots of garbage... and dancing all over the garbage... it's INSANELY fun... OK I'm a little weird... my other 9 ideas get better.... but seriously TRY THIS!!!

9.  BID ME BALD:  This one is by far the most widely used event in Relay by teams, and a very effective way of earning BIG donations.  There are a lot of variations on how to do it, I will stick with the one we use that is tried and true.. Set an event time for 2 -3 hours and you need a DJ for this, preferably one who can work the mic really good in encouraging people to donate and to harass the people who are going to lose their SL hair.  Now you need 8 - 12 vict... I mean volunteers.  My suggestion on volunteers... ask people who have big community ties to put up their hair... a club owner, or a dancer, or a singer, or the owner of a big estate or someone who has a big social circle in general. The more socially prominent they are the bigger their earning potential... Each person sits in a chair with a single prim kiosk behind them.  For every 5000 L donated to their kiosk, they have to go bald in SL for a day.  The temptation is to make that amount smaller... DON'T make it smaller then 5000L!!!  First off if a big donor comes in you might end up saddling a volunteer with far too long a sentence and secondly a 5000L price tag on that person's hair elevates people's consciousness about making a more substantial donation... I've seen people's kiosks hit as high as 70,000 L before (that translated into 2 weeks baldness in SL).  The most successful Bid Bald event I ran had 10 volunteers to go bald and raised over 360,000 L in a 3 hour period... And I've seen other bid bald events do even better then that.

8.  KIOSK EVERYWHERE!!! :  The more kiosks the more relay is seen...  The more kiosks the more relay is seen...  The more kiosks the more relay is seen...  The more kiosks the more relay is seen...  The more kiosks the more relay is seen...  The more kiosks the more relay is seen...  The more kiosks the more relay is seen...  The more kiosks the more relay is seen...  The more kiosks the more relay is seen...  The more kiosks the more relay is seen...  Now you keep repeating that!!!  Remember, even if some of your kiosks never get donated too... their mere presence is an advertisement for Relay for Life.

7.  CHATTERBOX:  New team members and donors come from some of the funniest places...  When you are out exploring and meeting people and you get into conversations... tell people about your involvement in Relay... You will be surprised how many new team members you might make that way or how many people might want to make some kind of donation after having that conversation.  Be a chatterbox about relay.

6.  BUILD BRIDGES:  Some take the team isolation approach in SL.  And while you certainly can Relay without reaching out to other teams, you will miss out on a tremendous opportunity to meet other people, to benefit from their ideas as well as to help them with yours.  Its a healthy thing to have friendships with some other teams, perhaps even consider a joint event with another team.  Some of our very best team friendships have come from building these kind of social bridges between teams.

5.  SACRIFICE:  This is actually the very last item that I wrote about when writing this article... I really struggled on whether it was appropriate, especially in the given economic climate with the hard times we are all facing...  But even so I think it needs to be a message heard.  One of the backbones of some of the most successful teams is that they have a number of team members who themselves are also big donors to the team effort on a monetary level...  For the past 2 years my RL spouse and I have sacrificed in some very real ways in our RL in order to donate to Relay for Life... We do so because we believe in it.  Think very hard about... or even pray if you are spiritually inclined... about making some sort of RL sacrifice in order to donate to Relay.  This year one of the things we are doing in RL is to shop at a discount grocery store for the 4 months of Relay.  We are also decreasing our budget for a lot of non essential things in order to donate more.  Things are tight, and we are hurting this year more then any prior year due to the economy... but we are still finding ways that will allow us to monetarily contribute.  Friends... please consider making a sacrifice of some small or even big comforts in your RL in order to turn that money into a very loving gift that will help go to save lives and bring comfort into the lives of others.  Your sacrifice is one of love.

4.  DOUBLE DOWN! :  Ok this is my very favorite strategy at events to increase donations...  Lets say you have some Lindens burning a hole in your pocket.  Lets say you have 5000 L to donate to your own team's kiosk... Go ahead and just dump it in the kiosk... BRAKES!!!!  NO!!!! WAIT!!! Don't miss the Double Down opportunity!  Don't just donate that 5000 L... Donate it in a way that doubles it... Wait till you have a good crowd to do this with too... and resist the temptation to do it at the beginning of your event.  Let people make donations they already intend on making first... then about half way through the event... or when you find the donations have dropped off... that is when to Double Down!!!  Go into open chat and announce that the next 5 donations of 1000L you will match with your own money... after announcing your intention to match their donations wait for people to put in their 1000 L and then you donate your 1000 L etc... if after the second one nobody is donating, continue to remind them in open chat about your intention to match their donation and keep doing this until enough people have made those 1000L donations and you have matched up to the limit you set.   Now your 5000 L donation just became a 10,000 L donation... During last year's relay I think I managed to get 30% of all money that I donated doubled in this manner with matching donations.  And we had several people on our team employing this very same strategy.  DOUBLE DOWN!!! It totally works!

3.  Be a CHEERLEADER! :  I cannot stress this one enough.... It is so simple too... At your events you need to motivate and energize the people there into making them want to donate...  Make sure you individually thank everyone who donates.   Not just a "ty bob for the donation"... NO... try this... "WOW Bob... that was totally AWESOME... Thank you for that donation, you RAWK!!!"  See the difference?  You just made Bob feel incredible about putting his L in your kiosk.  In fact, Bob may very well go on to donate again because you MOTIVATED him.  Make a big deal about EVERY donation, even small ones.  Everyone's ability to donate is at a different level.  Furthermore, encourage people to donate, talk to them, be social with them.  Perhaps occasionally share a statistic like 1000 L approximately is the cost of one good cup of coffee from Starbucks... lets all give up our coffee tomorrow and make a nice donation!  Then you throw in your 1000 L to show them you are doing it too.  Now you just became the Coffee Nazi "NO COFFEE FOR YOU!!!" The main thing is people need to see your enthusiasm for the cause.  Go check out one of the SL Cure Chasers team events for example.... they have it down to a science... they even HAVE cheerleader outfits!

2.  NETWORKING:  Ok, this was ALMOST my #1... Maximizing the use of your groups and friendships for the sake of Relay is vital to its success...  The biggest mistake you can make is to simply advertise your events in the Relay Volunteer group and the event boards.  While these should be used, keep in mind that every team in the SL relay is saturating them with notices every single day.... The volunteers are awesome but they get tapped really quick and many of them half way through the season either tune it out or leave that group entirely... A successful team will be drawing more then 80% or their donations in from non-relay groups and sources.  Your club's group or your social network might only get hit up for donations by YOU...  So you need to maximize your connections and friends.. get people there who may never even know about a relay event if you didn't tell them.  If you have DJs or singers coming in for your event, ask them to hit up their own groups for your event... ask your friends who show up to hit their groups and friends lists.  The bigger the network that you can draw from to get people to your event... the more successful your event will be.  And if some of those volunteers do happen to show up... be super nice to them... they probably had at least half a dozen choices of Relay events to attend; you are LUCKY they picked yours.  NETWORK!!!!

1.  It's not about YOU! :  Keeping your heart and mind on the cause is by far the very best tip I can give... It is so easy to get sidetracked in a Relay.  The very best of intentioned people can easily have their motivations postured and manipulated.  When you begin your Relay year write down a paragraph of Why you relay... then before every event go back and read that, it will keep you focused... I relay for my Dad who died from a very aggressive Lymphoma and I relay for my Aunt who is now battling that very same disease that runs in our family.  At the end of the day... its not about my team totals... its not about having the very best event... its not about any accolades I might receive from my teammates or friends... its not about getting a more prominent position on my team... its not about promoting my club, business or community... its not about that virtual pat on the back of my own ego... its not about me.  Its about that mission statement of wanting to see people like my Dad and my Aunt never have to come home and tell their families "I have cancer." Keep focused on YOUR reason that you Relay, and you will never have to worry about tripping over yourself.  It will keep you focused and motivated to keep bringing the very best you have to offer because your reason to Relay is more important then any of that other stuff.

Evangeline Ling, Co-Captain, Team RELAY for HOPE

Evangeline, those are awesome tips. I don't know how to thank you for this. But one thing I do know with this sharing, we all gain, and that's a whole lot of good, focused on what maters most.

This is in deed the Season of Hope.

YOU HAVE TO SEE THIS BEFORE IT'S GONE!!!

What an amazing place. And no, don't adjust you monitor, these SIM are created in stunning black and white, which just so happens the theme “Beyond Black and White”, for this years Fashion for Life event of the American Cancer Society, Relay for Life in Second Life's Season of Hope.

I spent over an hour there last night wandering about, and like a tourist in the big city, my eye were cast sky wards. If you happen to find a JAW, it mine! 9 full SIMs to explore.

Each of the 9 SIMs were created by 9 different teams, whom I know, each of us will have a hard time picking our favorite. Wouldn't want to be a judge on this committee!!

Fashion for Life runs from March 12th until March 22nd, 2011 Lots of information is available at the Fashion for Life website http://fashionforlifesl.com

"This year’s theme will be “Beyond Black and White,” embodying the spirit of cancer survivors everywhere as they find hope rising out of the dark diagnosis of cancer. Spread over the sims will be over 200 stores with a hunt and gatcha areas, all with the goal of raising funds for the American Cancer Society. Fashion for Life will feature the best designers from around the globe."

"Over 1,400,000L has already been raised via sponsorships and store registration and shopping. With nine sim sponsors including KMadd, SLink, House of RFyre, Nicky Ree, Bliss Couture, Evie's Closet, Falln Angels, Lapointe & Bastchild, and Woe, we expect this to be the biggest so far, with donated funds going to the American Cancer Society via their RFL program in SL."

Find out why BOSL says, "The whole team behind ‘Fashion for Life 2011’ have raised the bar by miles, triumphantly producing what is- quite frankly- fashion nirvana."

These pictures hardly do it justice. It really is to amazing to take it all in one visit. Shop after shop, sim after sim. Absolutely stunning. You really have to see it with your own eyes.

Below you will find the list of SIM, VIP and Store Sponsors for this years Fashion for Life. The name of the team responsible for each SIMs design, and Store Sponsors listed by SIM (SLurl included)

It's a long list and I know if I spend all my available time here until it closes on March 22nd, I still won't get to see everything offered here for sale. So I would suggest to do wait to long either. Time is ticking away on this amazing place and offers.

Help us Fight for the Cause and have fun doing it! 100% of donated funds will go directly to the American Cancer Society and their international efforts do make Cancer history.

Bless EVERYONE that brought this idea to life.

Jennifer Curtau

Mardi Gras Masquerade Party Pictures

Awesome Party! The music was fabulous! And the costumes fantastic!

Having never had the opportunity in real life to go to a Marde Gras I wasn't sure what to wear. My dear bother Argent suggested way over the top.

He's our team captain Random Padar doing her thing.

We even had MamaP Beerbaum and Stingray9798 Raymaker stopped in for a few. I can't imagine the pride and joy they get from all this.

He's one of the three DJs we had on hand for the 6 hour marathon party. Awesome costume! Would have been nicer without the shades! LoL

Love SL, anything possible, it's as easy as easy as editing you profile. Great Mad Hatter!!!

Yours truly challenged everyone for donations at around 20 to 6, with out team total sitting around $11.5K. My challenge I would go bald for a week if we got the total up to 15K by 6pm, AND I pull the scissor out and loose my neko tail for a $20K total.
Well thanks to by brother Argent I'm now going bald and tailless until next weekend. Small price to pay to raise $8.5K for the RFLinSL. GO RELAY!

The party kept rocking, the people kept coming, and the donation kept flowing.
RFL Harmony of Hope raised $42,900L in our opening party.
I am SO pleased to be part of a group of over 3700 people
in SL, all working for one goal,
to beat and find a cure for Cancer
and give everyone the hope
for more Birthdays.

The Relay for Life in Second Life 2011 Season of Hope has been given birth. 3700 people from around the world have come together in Second Life in celebration of LIFE. The kick off party held today at a jaw dropping BOSL Browns Stadium. And what a party.

Everyone was dancing in the stands. Great music playing and not a bad view in the place. The LAG monster was present but it was manageable. I'm sure there were a few servers down in Linden HQ were getting hot!

Here's the RFL Harmony of Hope group jumping for joy in the stands!

The whole stadium was really nicely done. The local chat was following with hoot and hollering of the attendees and the RFL Volunteer and my Team group IM's not far behind. And of course me being the IM junkie that I am, Heck, I describe SL as MNS Messenger on Steroids, jump right in. A few quick words with team members. Yahoo.
I Found this little cutie dancing away in celebration life too. If there ever a reason I know many of you do this thing called Relay, is represented right here in this.
Well it is Second Life after all!  LoL But that is what I LOVE about it, your can express yourself however you wish. But we ALL have the same feelings and hopes.
Heehee! Love It.
Here's everyone gathering of the main RFL in SL group on stage.

The presentation started and then Tali Walmer came tell her story.

Early on in my SL adventure I came to realize what SL means to many people. In my travels in this world of wonder, are people whom real life is a struggle. Be it mobility issues, physically or geographically, issues with health, or a 1,000 other reasons, and SL give people access to a community of friends and more.
But what I was truly unprepared for is how SL would change me in my RL and what it gave me.
It has the power to heal.
That could not be better illustrated in Tali's words.

Poppy Zabelin's post at RFLofSL contains the full text of Tali's speech "You'll Never Walk Alone".
It is a beautiful testament to the power of SL. Do have tissue present.

Poor Stingray9798 Raymake who followed Tali, but summed is up best,
"How do I follow that!?!?" he said jokingly with deep admiration.

You're right, I'm SO far behind Tali, I have a lot of catching up to do, too!

I'm only 468 days old and this is, my first Relay!
But what a first Relay so far, I am so proud to here.
The love and power of those gathered filled the stadium to over flowing.
